MAXWELL AFB BLDG 1410 CHILLER PLANT REPLACEMENT
Peachtree Mechanical Inc. was contracted under a firm fixed-price agreement to upgrade the Maxwell Air Force Base Building 1410 Energy Plant. The scope of work included excavation, installation of underground high-voltage duct banks, transformers, and concrete foundations for new air handlers, pumps, and chillers.
The project involved the installation of five new centrifugal pumps and five 1,000-ton chillers, along with DDC controls, utility piping, chilled water systems, and condenser water piping. Renovations were also completed on six existing cooling towers to enhance overall system performance.
Electrical upgrades included the installation of two new 4,060-amp services and one new 3,000-amp service. Each of the five 1,000-ton chillers required a 480-volt, 1,200-amp feeder, and the new chillers were connected to upgraded 4,000-amp services.
As part of the transition, the existing 4,160-volt switchgear and step-down transformer were replaced with a new 3,000-amp, 480-volt service. This process required a complete plant shutdown to safely remove the existing 4,160-volt service.
New 480-volt transition sections were installed and integrated into the existing switchboard, completing the upgrade and ensuring reliable, high-capacity power distribution throughout the facility.
