Grady Clinical Lab
Peachtree Mechanical Inc. served as the mechanical, plumbing, and medical gas subcontractor for the new Grady Memorial Hospital Clinical Laboratory,
constructed within an active, fully occupied hospital campus. A major component of the project was the replacement of two existing chillers serving critical hospital and laboratory systems, performed while maintaining continuous operation of the facility. The scope also included mechanical and plumbing systems supporting advanced laboratory functions, including two BSL-3 laboratory areas requiring stringent airflow control and pressurization.
PMI installed and integrated new chiller equipment, along with associated mechanical piping, controls, and system tie-ins, while ensuring uninterrupted service to ongoing hospital operations. Additional work included the installation of two large rooftop air handling units, extensive ductwork distribution, plumbing systems, and specialized medical gas infrastructure. All shutdowns, tie-ins, and changeovers were meticulously planned and sequenced to avoid disruption to patient care, laboratory functions, and daily hospital activities.
Installation of major rooftop equipment required large-capacity crane lifts immediately adjacent to the hospital’s main public entrance in a dense, congested urban setting. These lifts involved detailed planning, traffic and pedestrian control, temporary road closures, and close coordination with hospital facilities, security, and the General Contractor.
This project demonstrates PMI’s ability to execute complex chiller replacements, critical system changeovers, and crane-intensive installations within one of the most active areas of a major urban hospital—while maintaining continuous, uninterrupted operations.
